![]() ![]() Grand Canyon is her passion, her solace and the greatest teacher she has ever had. Marieke has a contagious passion for hiking and river games as well as human history and natural history in Grand Canyon that she loves to share, and can also be found pulling out her painting supplies or guitar during a trip. She started working in the Canyon in 1999 and can be found down there in an oar boat, paddle-boat or kayak. She has a vibrant love for the southwest and water in the desert, especially the mighty Colorado through Grand Canyon. His spirit for outdoor recreation and adventure is contagious, he hopes to spread kindness and compassion through fun.īorn and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona, Marieke has been close to the Canyon for all of her life. When Omar is not in Flagstaff thinking about increasing access to the Grand Canyon, he can most likely be found (not easily) descending a technical canyon, climbing some big wall, or running some white water. Omar has worked commercially in Tibet, China, Colombia and has participated and enjoys extreme endurance events. After this serendipitous connection to the pulse of the Colorado Plateau, he has gone on to keep up the spirit of adventure and explorations. This chance of jobs led to the opportunity to start working commercially on the Colorado through the Grand Canyon. After relocating to Arizona in 2005, Omar quickly was immersed in the canyons and mountains of the American Southwest and became a backpacking guide in the Grand Canyon. This exposure to wilderness and serenity played a huge part in inspiring a career as an outdoor professional. Omar grew up playing, loving and learning in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia. Omar was born in the Central American country of Nicaragua and emigrated with his family to the United States. Minimum Requirements: Be 18 years of age or older Wilderness First Responder, CPR, and Epi Certifications Food Handler’s Certificate experience on the sections we boat through pass a pre-employment background and driving record check and drug test.Responsibilities include but are not limited to: educating participants about the place you are traveling as well as outdoor safety and etiquette leading hikes engaging with youth and participating in interpretation providing needed first-aid and managing/assessing risk setting-up camp, cooking meals, cleaning dishes, maintaining toilet systems providing care and repair to boats and equipment using good judgment and maintaining heart and humor. ![]() Additionally, because we are a youth organization we run completely dry trips. We have fun and play in the dirt while also teaching about the places we are travelling through. Our primary focus is creating community and opportunities for youth to challenge themselves while exploring the rivers and canyons of the Southwest.
